Gus Greensmith has secured a full WRC2 championship campaign with the M-Sport Ford World Rally Team & will tackle 7-rounds of WRC2 in an M-Sport Ford Fiesta R5 Evo2. “I feel I am ready for the challenge that lies ahead. I feel I have proved I am capable to make this step up into WRC2 with the speed I have shown in the Drive-DMACK Fiesta Trophy this past year. 2017 will be a big learning curve and so I aim to gain stage mileage & show real potential in my speed as the year progresses” said Gus.
2017 also sees the new partnership of Gus Greensmith & Craig Parry. “I feel this is the perfect time to start working with someone of Craig Parry’s talent. He is very experienced, extremely committed to his craft & has an eye for detail like my own. We’re working together constantly as we strive to create a winning combination” proclaimed Gus. Parry who had partnered Elfyn Evan’s to the British Rally Championship Title & 3rd in the WRC2 Championship in 2016 see’s Gus as the right move; “I’m really looking forward to working with Gus on our 2017 programme, we’ve been very busy over the winter months getting up to speed with each other & I’m very happy with the progress we’ve made & how well we have bonded. Gus has made some amazing progress in a relatively short period of time. It’s not just his natural talent in the car but his approach and attitude is exactly what is needed to progress in this sport. After showing some incredible speed on his WRC2 debut, I do think the future is very bright for this young. It’s fantastic to be with in the M-Sport team because it’s an ideal environment to help him learn & progress quickly as a driver”.
Gus’ programme is to be initially funded by sponsorship from oil distribution giant Crown Oil, Rockdoor Ltd, Gap, Soudal & Klober. “Without their funding & support, I wouldn’t be able to compete in 2017. It’s a fantastic feeling to have enthusiastic backers who feel my future potential & the WRC is a place to showcase their companies”. Gus & the M-Sport Ford World Rally team agreed on a deal in early October regarding the 2017 WRC2 season & M-Sport’s Richard Millener said the potential for Gus was clear. “He is ready for the step! Once he was used to the car in Wales, things looked very promising”.
Gus feels now is the right time to form a fixed-team around himself in order to give Gus & Craig the best chance to create a winning combination for the future; “It’s time to start thinking long term about my rallying career & I need to surround myself with some of the best people in their given area. I will be working with Ex-Mitsubishi WRC driver Kristian Sohlberg & Fitness specialists’ Harper Performance throughout 2017’” explained Gus.
